Tenants Deposit Scheme Leaves Solicitors Seeing Red

From 6 April, all residential deposits will be held on behalf of clients under a government approved guarantee scheme. Under a government contract, the Dispute Service will provide a specialist scheme for property professionals, including solicitors. Unfortunately, the Dispute Service has refused to allow solicitors to join the scheme on equal terms to surveyors or members of the Association of Residential Letting Agents. They intend to charge solicitors almost 60% more to join the scheme, and to place other special conditions upon solicitor membership.
