Law Society v Government on Legal Aid

Solicitors Unite to Fight for the Future of Legal Aid
Law Society Press Release
10 October 2006
Legal aid practitioner associations have joined their national
representative body, the Law Society, in a campaign to secure a
sustainable legal aid system.  The Law Society, Legal Aid
Practitioners Group, Criminal Law Solicitors' Association and the
London Criminal Courts Solicitors' Association have joined forces
to lobby the Government to ensure the Carter reforms are not
implemented in a way that could cause lasting harm to access to
justice.

Meanwhile Vera Bird Continues Her Campaign Against It
Speech by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for
Constitutional Affairs, Vera Baird QC MP
, at the Advice
Service Alliance's Policy Advisory Group

I want to assure you all that I am fully aware of the wider
contribution that NfP agencies make to the CLS through other
services. Other complementary advice services funded by
charitable, lottery, private sector or other public sector
partners are crucial in supporting legal aid services. Our
approach is to strengthen and deepen those bonds not undermine or
weaken them.
