Little Noticed Land Charges Fee Change
Guidance on Local Land Charge FeesDCA Press Release31 January 2007
A little noticed and potentially expensive change: the Lord
Chancellor has today laid before Parliament guidance to help
registering authorities in England carry out their duty to
specify and publish fees payable for local land charge services
from 1 April 2007. Local land charges are issues affecting a
property of which anyone interested in the property ought to be
aware, such as a tree preservation order. Currently these fees
are set by the Lord Chancellor. Registering authorities in
England will be able to set fees appropriate to their own
circumstances, which will allow them to respond to local
conditions and will encourage greater efficiency and
transparency. The fee for a personal search of the local land
charges register will continue to be set by the Lord Chancellor.
