Ministry of Justice – Bar Council response
The Bar Council has today welcomed the establishment of a new Ministry of Justice, pulling together government policies across a range of former departments, but it has called for safeguards in the new department’s operations.
Commenting on the announcement of a Home Office split into a Ministry of Security and a Ministry of Justice, Fiona Woolf, Law Society president says:
"The Law Society has long supported the establishment of a Ministry of Justice. We are particularly in favour of the transfer of responsibility for criminal law and procedure to the minister responsible for ensuring the fairness of the justice system as a whole."
