UKLawyers Legal Newswires, the leading general legal newswire for lawyers.

Join now to gain the benefits of this unique practice tool.

We aim to cover all the legal news topics which are of relevance to most lawyers and provide links to the latest important
legal source material available on the web. See the Latest News below.

The Editor, Steve Butler, is a solicitor with almost 30 years experience in mostly general practice, but who is
also a specialist in Family Law.  Over the past five years he has been able to gain unique experience working for
such organisations as LawZone and Legal Practitioner, in finding legal information on the internet.  Management information is provided by Joe Reevy, the original Editor of LawZone and a chartered accountant with years of experience in helping legal practices to succeed.

The newswire is published free most  weeks, usually on Thursdays, and is sent by email direct to the mailbox of our subscribers.

On this site we will collate all the weekly materials by subject matter and so build up a useful reference source.

The site has only recently started functioning in its present form and will gradually improve in its effectiveness.

The Leading Question

Is the Profession Going to Pot?

Have you been involved in suing another firm of solicitors for non-payment of a bill?

Have you dealt with a solicitor on the other side of a conveyancing transaction where he or she obviously has no idea what they were doing?

Have you dealt with an enormous firm where the staff are constantly changing and nobody takes any responsibility for mistakes, always blaming the person whose desk they have taken over?

Have you had to ask a mortgagee to pay your costs because their gross inefficiency has created work which was entirely unnecessary?

Have you had to deal with a firm in  a conveyancing transaction where they had no control of the actions of their perverse and difficult client?

Have you had to be involved in a probate dispute where it transpires that the other side have not even bothered to administer the estate?

Have you had to deal with that scourge of the profession, the costs draftsman instructed for the unsuccessful defence?

Have you any view on why these things happen - is it because there are too many lawyers; because they are not well enough trained; because the Law Society is incapable of  taking action to protect the profession; because we rely too much on insurance; because the modern world is just too complicated and we do not have the resources to cope???

Please let me know your problems and your views.

All the links here are to the UKLawyers site.  When you get there,
have a good look round.  In each news story there should be a list
of connected stories.  There is an archive divided by subject
matter going back to April.  This is definitely growing into a
useful resource and the Google search on the front page searches
the site for information so that you should be able to find
everything you need.  Let me know if you have any problems on the
site.

Greetings to the new subscribers - please encourage as many people
as possible to subscribe because the more people I help the happier
I will be.
